ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a condition which is characterized by inattention and hyperactivity. ADHD has affected millions of kids in the worlds. Children with ADHD tend to have low self-esteem, poor performance in school, and have trouble in making relationship with others. The main symptoms of ADHD are inattention and hyperactive, though some other less obvious symptoms may also appear. In some kids, the symptoms are so obvious, while other kids may not clearly show the symptoms. There are four type of ADHD, namely inattentive ADHD, hyperactive-impulsive ADHD, ADHD combined type, and inattentive presentation (restrictive).
Talking about the ADHD characteristics, actually each type of ADHD has its own characteristic. Children with inattentive ADHD tend to sit quietly and does not show much signs of hyperactivity. They also have poor organizational skill, are easily distracted, often daydream, often make careless mistakes, and often seem to be mentally absent. In hyperactivity/impulsivity ADHD, kids spend most of their time in the class fidgeting and moving around. They often speak out of turn and interrupt others. Kids with combined ADHD tend to show behaviours associated with both. The kids with this type ADHD may sit quietly for a long time but other time they can talk excessively. Though some normal kids also do the same, kids with this type of ADHD still have difficulties in processing information. For the last type, the inattentive representation (restrictive), the patient must meet the ADHD criteria of predominantly inattentive. And he/she must have two or fewer of the 12 symptoms of ADHD, which have been present for at least 6 months in the children.
The ADHD condition can be different in each kid. So, anytime you see one or more symptoms that make you worried, just go to your doctor to have your kid diagnosed. When your kid is diagnosed with ADHD, your doctors may offer some kids of treatments. Medications may be prescribed to you. One of the most common medications for ADHD is stimulants to boost and balance the brain chemical’s levels.
